Josh Mervis

Team Principal

Josh Mervis – Owner & Managing Partner, Indy Ice Barn

Josh Mervis brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in hockey and sports development, with a proven track record of building successful organizations, developing elite talent, and creating sustainable infrastructure for long-term growth.

Mervis began his career in 1996 as an assistant coach at the University of Maine under Hall of Fame coach Shawn Walsh before moving into junior hockey, where he spent the next 26 years helping transform the developmental landscape in the United States. During that time, he played an important role in the evolution of the USHL from a modest Tier I league into one of the world’s leading producers of NHL draft picks and NCAA Division I talent.

As a founder and executive, Mervis led the launch, revitalization, and growth of multiple USHL franchises, including the Danville Wings, Indiana Ice, and Muskegon Lumberjacks. Under his leadership, those organizations helped more than 500 players earn Division I scholarships and produced dozens of NHL draft selections. His teams also received USA Hockey’s Junior A Community Service Award five times, reflecting his commitment to both player development and community engagement.

In addition to team operations, Mervis has advised sports leagues, ownership groups, and prospective team owners on franchise development, expansion strategy, operational planning, and the infrastructure required to build sustainable, high-performing organizations.

In 2020, Mervis expanded his entrepreneurial vision by opening Ice Barn Indiana, a state-of-the-art hockey training center in central Indiana designed to combine elite instruction with a scalable, cost-effective approach to rink development. Built around small-surface training and developmental efficiency, Ice Barn represents a forward-thinking model for sustainable growth in youth sports facilities.

In 2022, Mervis founded Ice Barn Racing, a professional motorcycle road racing team competing in the MotoAmerica series. The program reflects his broader passion for athlete development, performance culture, and building pathways for young competitors to succeed at the highest level.

Across every venture, Mervis remains focused on innovation, organizational culture, community impact, and long-term sustainability—the hallmarks of his career in sports leadership.
